Howard Sherman – Melodrama Over Craft, Craft Over Melodrama
Opening Reception: Saturday January 8th, 2011, 5 – 8pm
Exhibition Dates: January 8 – February 12, 2011
Cris Worley Fine Arts, in collaboration with Fedri Fine Art Advisory, proudly presents new paintings by Howard Sherman in an exhibition entitled Melodrama over craft, craft over melodrama. This is Sherman’s third solo exhibition in Dallas, and his first at Cris Worley Fine Arts.
This exhibition will feature collaged works on paper, and mixed media canvases including a rare series of black and gold paintings executed in early 2010, never before on public view.
Since graduating with his MFA from UNT in 2006, Howard Sherman has garnered massive critical praise for each successive body of artwork created. His paintings are fervently collected both in and outside of Texas. 2010 was a busy year for Sherman. He found himself highlighted in two publications, Texas Artists Today, curated and written by Catherine Anspon, published by Marquand Books, as well as in New American Paintings #90, available at retail bookstores. Sherman’s museum show in early 2010 at the Galveston Arts Center titled “Eating Your Friction” was favorably reviewed by the Houston Chronicle on three separate occasions, and had previously traveled to the Art Museum of Southeast Texas. Also in 2010, he was awarded the Deadalus Fellowship at the Vermont Studio Center Artist-In-Residence, and was a Jentel Artist-In-Residence.
