Kelli Vance – Myth Maker
Opening Reception: Saturday, April 5th, 6 – 8pm
Exhibition dates: April 5 – May 10, 2014
Cris Worley Fine Arts is excited to announce our first solo exhibition of work by Houston-based artist Kelli Vance. Myth Maker opens Saturday, April 5th from 6 – 8pm with an artist’s reception and will run through May 10, 2014. Vance’s painted female figures have the air of a psychological thriller. The women in her paintings are in mysterious yet tense situations, their poses sometimes provocative or suggestive, but there is always an element of the unknown to the scenes created. Vance wants the viewer to become involved in her scenes, to make them feel as though they walked into a room while these events are taking place.
Myth Maker was inspired by Vance’s current living situation, a fourplex apartment building shared by 3 other single women. The old building has created interconnectedness between these women as they can often hear each other through the thin walls, and the aging nature of the building itself creates odd situations that the women share. This living arrangement has interested Vance in how space and circumstance inform the development of identity through a complex web of experiences.
Kelli Vance graduated from the University of Houston with her MFA in 2008. In 2009 her work was selected for a solo exhibition in the Texas Biennial in Austin. Vance’s work has shown across Texas as well as in Los Angeles, Chicago, and New Mexico.
