Cris Worley Fine Arts is proud to present the latest solo exhibition of revered Texas sculptor, Harry Geffert. The show, entitled, First Light, will open with an artist’s reception on Saturday, November 21st from 6 – 8 pm, and will run through January 2, 2016.
Harry Geffert’s work explores an obsession with the natural world through his unmatched ability to replicate its delicate details in fine bronze casting. In recent years, Geffert has begun to blur the boundaries between painting and sculpture, generating the physical manifestation of the artist’s remembrances of nature. The resulting landscapes and still life objects demonstrate the surreal qualities of space and time and memory. Says Geffert, “In my college years, I would go hiking in the Rockies early in the morning, and get to the meadows at the first light of day. I can close my eyes even today and still smell the air filled with the growth of those meadows. Much of my art has been about these little moments.” Many of the works in First Light reflect a subtle return to the narrative, which was once more prevalent in earlier decades.
At 81 years of age, Geffert holds legendary status as an expert sculptor, educator and major contributor to the continuum of Texas art history. In his over fifty-year career, he has had numerous solo museum exhibitions, an NEA grant, and a Legend Award from the Dallas Visual Art Center.
Harry Geffert received his B.S. from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos and his M.A. from New Mexico Highlands University in 1961. His work is housed in major public collections including the Dallas Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the El Paso Museum of Art, and the Modern Museum of Fort Worth. Geffert’s work is also part of many exemplary private collections such as the collection of Mr. and Mrs. Richard and Nona Barrett and the collection of Mr. and Mrs. Tim Hanley, both of Dallas.
