Press Release

Cris Worley Fine Arts is proud to announce our second solo-exhibition with Sherry Owens entitled Grandfather’s Land, opening with an artist’s reception on Saturday, July 9 from 5 to 8 pm. The exhibition is part of a program developed by the gallery in 2020 titled Tales from the Viewing Room. TFTVR is a project space in the gallery’s third room known as the “viewing room,” in which the gallery showcases guest artists, as well as small projects by gallery artists.

Grandfather’s Land is based on five generations of Texans in the artist’s family. The exhibition will feature one large-scale free-standing sculpture of the same name, made with the artist’s signature material of crepe myrtle and bronze. Five graphite and conte drawings surround the room: each representing family members from five generations, including the artist and her progeny.

Sherry Owens lives and works in Dallas, TX and received a BFA from Southern Methodist University. Her work has been shown throughout Texas and the southwest; in 2021 she held a solo exhibition at the Grace Museum in Abilene, TX in 2018, she completed a two-person site specific installation at the UMLAUF Sculpture Garden & Museum in Austin, Texas, and was included in Commanding Space: Women Sculptors of Texas, at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art in Fort Worth, Texas.
